A biker has told how a heroic dog led him to a new-born baby that was wrapped in a towel on a patch of waste ground.
Junrell Fuentes Revilla was riding through Sibonga in the Philippines province of Cebu on Christmas Eve when the dog, which he initially thought was a stray, started following him and barking.
The persistent pupper carried on following him and barking for a while, so Junrell decided to stop and see what the dog wanted.
The dog then led him to a grassy patch where a newborn baby boy was wrapped in a towel.
The newborn still had its umbilical cord attached and Junrell immediately took him to a nearby hospital.
According to Cebu Daily News, the police department’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk (WCPD) confirmed that the biker had reported the incident as well.
The baby boy is currently in the care of social services who are trying to track down the parents or anybody who might know anything about the baby.
The police have asked the public to come forward with any information that might help the case.
The local animal charity Hope for Strays later tracked down the dog and learned that it was not a stray as initially reported, but an 18-month-old puppy named Blackie that belongs to a local man called Kuya Lyndon Olingay.
The charity handed Blackie’s family a reward for their pet’s good behaviour, including cash, food and dog treats.
“Kuya Lyndon was teary-eyed and could not express how grateful he is,” they wrote on Facebook.
