This is the moment a Land Rover crashed into eight other cars in a supermarket car park, while a man sprinted out of the way with a baby in his arms.

The smash happened in a Costco car park in St Helens, Merseyside, and a pensioner lost consciousness at the wheel, Liverpool ECHO reports.

A video widely shared online shows the out-of-control Land Rover hurtling forward and smashing into numerous parked cars outside the Haydock store.

The wheels of the 4×4 mount the side of another car, almost flipping it over before it slams back down on the tarmac and continues to shoot forwards.

A man, who is walking a small toddler by the hand, hears the sound of the crash, looks back, and instinctively scoops up the child and sprints to safety.

He runs out of the way as the Land Rover barrels into more cars before coming to a crunching halt.

Yesterday, the ECHO reported how the incident happened on Andover Road in Haydock, St Helens, at about midday on Monday, December 7.

The off-road vehicle crashed into a white van and then pushed a Nissan into metal trolley barriers before smashing a Ford Focus into a number of parked cars.

No injuries were reported and the driver was medically assessed at the scene.

Police said the elderly driver was not under the influence of alcohol and the incident is still under investigation.

A spokeswoman from Merseyside Police said: "We were called to Costco on Andover Road around midday yesterday (Monday 7 December) to reports of a Land Rover colliding with eight parked cars.

"No injuries were caused and the driver, a man in his 70s, was medically assessed.

"He provided a negative breath test at the scene and enquiries are ongoing."
