Police find bodies of young woman and one-year-old child after calling to home over concerns for her welfare

  • Cumbria Constabulary said police were not treating the deaths as suspicious

A woman in her twenties and a one-year-old child have been found dead at a house in Cumbria, police have said. 

Officers were called to an address in Wellington Row, Whitehaven at 2.52pm on December 30 after concerns were raised for the welfare of a woman. 

Upon arrival, they found the bodies of the baby and young woman. 

A spokesman for Cumbria Constabulary said police were not treating the deaths as suspicious.

The force said in a statement: ‘Police attended an address in Wellington Row, Whitehaven, after being made aware at 2.52pm on December 30 of a concern for the welfare of a woman.

‘Sadly, two people were found deceased in the address – a woman in her twenties and a one-year-old child.

‘There are no suspicious circumstances at this time. The coroner has been contacted.’
