Prince Charles reportedly had to give up his dog as Princess Diana thought the pooch was "too smelly".
Whilst the Queen is known for her love of corgis, Prince Charles has also inherited the love of dogs from his mother, having had several dogs of his own over the years.
When Charles was married to Diana he had a Labrador called Harvey.
Unfortunately, it seems that Diana did not share her husband's enthusiasm for the pooch, according to one royal author.
In her 2005 book "The Firm", Penny Juror revealed that Prince Charles actually got rid of the dog for his wife.
She wrote: “He even gave away his faithful old labrador Harvey because Diana thought he was smelly.”
Whilst he loves dogs, The Lady magazine also revealed that Charles reportedly cannot stand cats.
The Prince of Wales was left devastated in 1994 when his Jack Russell Terrier Pooh went missing during a visit to Balmoral, sadly never to be seen again.
Happily, Charles soon had a new dog, named Tigger after another Winnie the Pooh character, who is now buried in the Prince's garden at Highgrove House.
The heir apparent to the throne now has two rescue dogs with Camilla, who were rescued from Battersea Dogs Home where Camilla is a patron.
The pair are called Beth and Bluebell.
In an announcement on Instagram, they wrote:
“Bluebell and Beth, The Duchess of Cornwall’s rescue dogs, are proud to show off their Wear Blue for Rescue bandanas as they support @battersea’s new campaign,” the caption read.
“The rescue movement celebrates all the wonderful pets that just need a second chance.”
