It's Breaking Bad come to life as an American teacher was one of four people caught for allegedly running a major amphetamine factory, Taiwanese officials have claimed.

Authorities were alerted that two men who had previously been arrested for producing drugs, begun a new narcotics operation in Taitung City, according to Taiwan’s Ministry of Justice Investigation Bureau (MJIB).

The city houses 100,000 people on the island's southeast coast and the two Taiwanese men who allegedly led the operation, known by their surnames Lo and Chen, reportedly recruited an American teacher, identified by the Chinese surname Lin.

The teacher was allegedly recruited to convert a bar that Lin owned into an amphetamine production facility.

With the bar being located in a hotspot of an bustling area surrounded by businesses, Lo and Chen felt confident in their ability to fly under the radar as they believed they'd be able to mask the smell of the drug production, as well as Lin's reputation as an American teacher would help them they evade capture by authorities.

An investigation ensued with the MJIB uncovering that Lin would make frequent trips in his spare time between the converted bar and a warehouse where the drug-making equipment was stored.

The American apparently didn't think it was enough to convert a bar into an amphetamine factory, as he was also found transporting drugs with other accomplices, according to authorities.

Authorities eventually raided the bar on March 11 as four people were arrested, including Lo, Chen and Lin and another suspect surnamed Cheng.

The police seized over 2.5lbs (1,133g) of amphetamines, over 21lbs (9,525g) of unfinished amphetamine as well as a large amount of drug manufacturing equipment and raw materials.

All four alleged perpetrators have been indicted by the Pingtung District Prosecutors Office and are currently in custody.
