Riot police have been dispatched to a tower block in London, with a helicopter also at the scene.

The officers have been pictured outside Draper House in Elephant and Castle, south London.

Nearly a dozen police officers from the Met Police's Territorial Support Group in blue jumpsuits and riot helmets were seen walking into the tower block carrying shields, MyLondon reports.

Two fire engines are also at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman told the Daily Star: "It’s a man experiencing what we believe to be a mental health crisis.

"Emergency services called to the location at around 7am and remain at the scene."

A London Ambulance Service spokesperson confirmed there is an ongoing incident at one of the flats.
