Rudy Giuliani has been hit with a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit for pushing claims that Dominion Voting Systems rigged the 2020 presidential election, new court papers show.

Giuliani “and his allies manufactured and disseminated the ‘Big Lie,’ which foreseeably went viral and deceived millions of people into believing that Dominion had stolen their votes and fixed the election,” according to the lawsuit filed Monday by Dominion — one of the country’s top voting machine companies.

Some critics claimed that Dominion’s machines could be easily manipulated and even blamed the company for former President Trump losing re-election.

Giuliani publicly accused Dominion of flipping Trump votes for Biden, even claiming in one episode of his podcast that “Dominion had stolen the election ‘technologically,’” the suit filed in Washington, DC, federal court said.

The former mayor of New York — and Trump’s personal attorney — “capitalized on publicity” from his claims against Dominion on that same Nov. 13, 2020 podcast episode, warning about the dangers of technology before pitching viewers a nearly $600 service to protect against those dangers. He also promoted supplements for helping achy joins in that episode, the suit alleges.

“There are no accusations that could do more to damage Dominion’s business or to impugn Dominion’s integrity, ethics, honesty, and financial integrity,” the court documents said. “Giuliani’s statements were calculated to — and did in fact — provoke outrage and cause Dominion enormous harm.”

Giuliani’s false narrative about election fraud not only damaged Dominion’s reputation, it also helped to incite the deadly Jan. 6 Capitol riot, the lawsuit charges.

Now, Dominion wants to “set the record straight, to vindicate the company’s rights under civil law, to recover compensatory and punitive damages, and to stand up for itself, its employees, and the electoral process,” the court papers claim.

Dominion filed a similar suit earlier this month against pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell — who filed numerous unsuccessful lawsuits in an effort to overturn election results.

She also publicly said during a series of press conferences that Dominion “had rigged the election, that Dominion was created in Venezuela to rig elections for Hugo Chávez, and that Dominion bribed Georgia officials for a no-bid contract,” the lawsuit alleged.

Giuliani could not immediately be reached for comment.
