Thornton police have closed off Colorado Boulevard between 112th Avenue and 115th Avenue and have issued a shelter in place order following a shots fired call Friday morning.

According to the police department’s Twitter account, shots were reportedly fired as police made a traffic stop at 115th Avenue and Colorado Boulevard at around 8:45 a.m. A man wearing a black hat, black hoodie, white T-shirt, and blue jeans was believed to be carrying a handgun.

By 9:20 a.m. neighboring schools were placed under secure alert.

The man, police said, may have stolen a stolen a gold Jeep Grand Cherokee from the area with the license plate number OLD489.

If anyone with information about the man’s whereabouts is advised to call 911 and to not approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous.
